About Frayed Edges Counseling

Alyssa Sherwood, LCSW Mental Health Therapist

Alyssa is a Clinical Social Worker with a broad range of experience working with individuals across the lifespan. She is particularly passionate about working with young adults, adults, and older adults. Alyssa specializes in treating thought disorders such as anxiety, panic, and OCD with Exposure Therapy and treating ADHD symptoms through various Behavioral Interventions. She has a special interest in treating Pain and other Somatic Disorders, using specific interventions to help clients manage and alleviate physical symptoms.

Alyssa's approach to therapy is grounded in evidence-based interventions with extensive research backing their success. She is certified and specialized in using Exposure Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Unified Protocol (UP).  She also employs skills and interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Gestalt Therapy to facilitate meaningful change in her clients' lives.

Alyssa is deeply motivated by the belief that individuals have the power to heal themselves by reframing negative and unhelpful thought patterns into new thinking patterns that encourage resilience and hope. She aims to normalize all feelings, even the hard ones. She believes that all feelings are meant to be felt, not to be fixed.

Clients can expect a therapeutic environment characterized by compassion, validation, and empathy. Alyssa is committed to meeting clients where they are in their treatment journey and reducing any shame people accumulate through life's hardships and challenges.

Erica Falk-Huzar, PsyD, SAC Substance Abuse Counselor

Erica is a Doctor of Psychology and a Substance Abuse Counselor, specializing in Addictions and Integrative/Holistic therapy.  Erica is also a Certified Natural Health Practitioner who focuses on a whole-person approach and integrative therapy.

Concentrating on the internal and external environment helps promote healing intention, personal wholeness, healing relationships, healthy lifestyles, and resilience. Erica's foundations include relationship-centered care, healing space, self-care, and intention and awareness.

Erica takes a firm and transdiagnostic approach, focusing on a Unified Protocol with Motivational Interviewing. Erica uses a client-centered and multi-modality approach, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).

Erica helps clients build motivation, understand their use patterns, and how they affect their quality of life and the lives of others in their support system.  While abstinence is encouraged, Erica believes in harm reduction with an ultimate goal of long-term recovery.

Erica strives to help clients recognize their needs and find strategies to address them in a healthier, less destructive way.
